Know More About SMSTS Training

By Kim Hays

SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) Training is a form of health and safety training. It has been designed specifically for site managers, agents and is also meant for those who are in charge of organizing, planning, controlling, monitoring and administering teams of people.
The Course Basics
The SMSTS course lasts for five days in total. In order to complete the course, it is imperative that you attend all the days. The certificate is valid for five years. Once this time period is over, you need to take a SMSTS refresher course so that your certificate can be renewed.
The course covers all legislation which is relevant to safety in a working environment, be it civil engineering, building or construction. The course looks at why risk assessments are important, stresses the need for control measures and focuses on how vital it is for the workforce to understand health and safety rules.
The course objectives
The Course Has Three Main Objectives. These Include:
*Understanding all legislation surrounding health, safety, environment and welfare as used within the workplace.
*Learning how to implement the best practices within your industry and getting new guidance in this regard.
*Gaining an understanding of duties and responsibilities in terms of health, safety, environment and welfare.
The course agenda
The SMSTS course covers a range of subject areas such as:
*Site set up
*CDM
*Risk Assessment
*Method Statements
*Scaffolding
It is vital that participants attend the course on all five days in order to qualify for the final assessment. This shows that they are aware of all information imparted under the course. The assessment will be an indication of how well they've understood what has been taught.
After completion of the five day course, the assessment begins. This is composed of two parts. The first part is an examination. The second part involves giving a valid health and safety solution for a site activity provided. Once you clear this, you qualify for the Construction Site Managers Safety Certificate. The certificate expires after five years. After this period, you'll need to take a Refresher SMSTS course in order to renew your
certificate for a further five years. The refresher course lasts for two days.
The course venue
It's possible to organize such courses in-house if companies find that a number of their staff requires this training. This has a number of advantages:
*Firstly, you can save a lot of money in terms of both travel cost and time.
*You can be flexible with respect to what date and time you can schedule the course.
*It is a great way to motivate your staff and can even be used as a form of team building exercise.
SMSTS training is necessary for those in need of a health and safety course. It is ideal for those in a managerial position and is useful for those who deal with work sites.
